11 Internet of Things Delegates at the third edition of the IoT India Congress in Bengaluru, India, were able to experience Internet of Things (IoT) technologies that could improve areas of our lives, including primary healthcare and digital communications. The Congress, held in October by the IET India Internet of Things (IoT) Panel in partnership with Exhibitions India Group, brought the IoT ecosystem under one roof. In addition to conferences, awards and funding sessions, this edition included ‘Live Experience Zones’, where delegates could see, touch and experience what an IoT-enabled future looks like. The future of primary healthcare Ashvanni Srivastava, Founder of Synergie Group Pte Ltd, gave a video tour of the exhibition on primary healthcare, which was shared across IET India’s social media channels. He explained: “The whole purpose of creating this IoT platform and solution was to move towards a more preventative model of healthcare, where screening and early detection, even in smaller towns and rural areas, can be conducted at very low cost.” Many of the devices in the future primary healthcare centre are familiar ones, including blood pressure monitors, stethoscopes, BMI and ECG monitors. The difference is that they transfer data to one common platform, so that it can be reviewed by specialist doctors and services in real time from remote locations. It means that high quality healthcare can be provided more easily to isolated communities. Opportunities for startups Other highlights during the Congress were sessions on IoT in healthcare, manufacturing, media and edutainment, smart cities and digital communications. Another session on standards called for more input from industry leaders to help create frameworks that startups can work within. Several startups got the opportunity to participate in ‘Argonaut – Money on the Table’, where they pitched their ideas and discussed business strategy with some of India’s biggest investors. A key event for India’s tech sector In its third year, the IoT India Congress had more impact than ever before. It attracted 2,000 delegates, has been shown on business news channels CNBC and ET Now and has received messages of support from the Indian Government. The Honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, noted the relevance of the event. “Our world is witnessing paradigm shifts on a scale never imagined before,” he said. “Technologies like Block Chain and Internet of Things are going to reshape forever the way we live and work… Our tech sector must be equipped in all respects to leverage this shift and explore its possibilities to solve our unique challenges, as well as establish ourselves as a leading player in the new world ahead.” Interested in outcomes from the Congress?
