17 Year in review SEPTEMBER NOVEMBER AUGUST OCTOBER JULY The 18th edition Wiring Regulations was published, setting the standards for electrical installations in the UK and other countries. Hong Kong Local Network celebrated their 30th anniversary, Brunei Darussalam their 20th anniversary and the Gibraltar Group of Professional Engineers their 60th anniversary in the summer of 2018. Singapore was the location for a series of young professionals events, including the Present Around The World regional finals, a conference for young professional volunteers and a lecture on the future of transport. We signed an agreement with the China Society for Electrical Engineering to work together on professional registration for engineers in China. Mike Carr became IET President and gave a sell- out address on digital TV compression. IET India’s Internet of Things Congress attracted 2,000 delegates for conference sessions, awards and funding opportunities. An award-winning ceremony The Young Woman Engineer of the Year Awards returned in December. The ceremony itself is prize-winning, having scooped Best Longstanding Awards event over 25 years old Award and the Impact Award at the 2018 Awards Awards ceremony. DECEMBER EngShorts videos Our public facing video campaign launched on social media, exploring societal issues and stimulating discussion about the role of engineering in addressing some of the world’s biggest challenges. EngTalk success Over the past two years we’ve transformed the look and feel of our Prestige Lecture series into inspiring EngTalks that are just as engaging for online audiences. In November Nick Rogers from Jaguar Land Rover delivered his EngTalk on the new and disruptive technologies within the automotive industry. Events earlier in the year included Air Marshal Julian Young’s talk on technological advances in the Royal Air Force and Dr Hao Li’s talk on an artificial intelligence driven technique for creating digital humans. Member News March 2019 Engineering Open House Day In association with the UK Government’s Year of Engineering campaign, we worked with organisations across the UK to hold an Engineering Open House Day. More than 30 organisations took part and engaged with over 5,000 visitors to showcase engineering to young people. To kick off the awards season, we recognised individuals and organisations at the Achievement and Innovation Awards ceremonies.
