IET adjusts strategic focus The IET published a new strategic framework in its Annual Report in May, focusing on the people and organisations it works with. The new framework identifies the groups of people that we support (practitioner, industry, society and academia), and defines strategic ambitions and objectives for each. While our vision and mission remain the same and at the heart of our activities, we’re increasingly looking at them in the context of the needs of engineers and technologists, the organisations in which they work and wider society. By maintaining an outward focus, we will remain relevant and effective in delivering our vision and mission in the years to come. The framework incorporates our values as an organisation that believes in integrity, excellence and teamwork in everything we do. It also includes our ‘enabling strategies’ (engagement, digital, resources, people), which help us to deliver our charitable purpose, vision and mission. IET members have played a key role in developing this new framework. The Board of Trustees, Council and IET executive staff first met in June 2018 to discuss it, IET staff then presented a draft to Council in October and held a discussion group with the Trustees in November. The framework was then refined before publication in May. Practitioner Ambition We champion excellence and professionalism in engineering and technology.
