AF Amistad High School Family Handbook 2017-2018 | 72 Receipt of IEP/504 Services Scholars with an IEP or 504 plan will continue to receive the services mandated by their IEP/504 plan while in ISC. Scholars will be permitted to leave ISC to attend related services. Exiting ISC A scholars is ready to leave ISC and return to class when he or she has completed a written reflection, has been following directions while in ISC and has debriefed or has a plan to debrief with both the ISC coordinator and either a Dean or the teacher who signed the original referral. We want scholars to return to class as quickly as possible. At the same time we will only send scholars back to class when they have shown they are ready and will not repeat the same mistake. Procedures and Due Process Requirements for Disciplinary Action The discipline policy of Achievement First is an important part of how we build a learning- focused, safe, and positive school environment. However, it is important that we implement these policies in a fair and transparent way. Scholars and their families deserve and are entitled to the due process protections outlined below. NOTE: Scholars identified as having one or more disabilities under the IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) and/or Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, as well as students suspected of having a disability (See Appendix [INSERT] for more information), may require alternative and/or additional procedures related to discipline. Specific procedures regarding disciplinary action for those students are set forth more fully below. (Connecticut law requires a scholar to have this informal hearing before he or she is removed from class more than six times in one school year or more than twice in one week. However, we think it is good practice to have an informal hearing, to the greatest extent possible, in connection with each removal.)  The overall goal is to get the scholar back on track and back in class as quickly as possible. In most cases, the scholar will be able to return to class in 20 to 60 minutes. In order to return to class, the scholar may have to satisfactorily complete a reflection form,
