b'I M P A C T R E P O R T - 2 0 2 32 5 GRE AT ER scholarsThe VSU Honors College and The Hill Leadership InstituteS P O T L I G H T :Leadership, Excellence, Advocacy, and DevelopmentIn 2024, the Virginia State University Honors College, under the leadership of Dr. Dan Roberts,proudlybecamethenewhomeoftheHillLeadershipInstitute(HLI).This transition marked a renewed commitment to advancing core principles of the Hill Fellow experience: leadership principles, civic engagement, and health equity.Under Assistant Director of Talent Development Arnold Westbrook, the Honors College began to reimagine the Institutes future with a renewed focus on service, wellness, and global connectivity.Honors College leadership implemented a dynamic new framework grounded in Service Leadership,incorporatinganinternationaleducationcomponentandanintensified focus on health initiatives, particularly Prostate and Breast Cancer awareness, which align with the wishes and legacy of benefactor Dr. Charlie Hill.Following an application and interview process, twenty-four (24) outstanding students were selected from a variety of academic disciplines. These recruits were introduced to the program through a transformative three-day leadership retreat to Washington, D.C.This immersive experience laid a foundation of self-discovery, teamwork, civic under-standing, and a multidimensional leadership journey.Throughout Spring 2025, Hill Fellows continued to expand their leadership and community engagement through participation in:VCU Massey Cancer Center programsRFL School of Business Leadership ConferenceThe Ukrops 10k in Richmond, VACampus-wide events for Womens History MonthPanelists for the TMCF and Dr. Joyce Payne Research Center Financial Well-Being ReportLocal volunteerism and service projects connected to health equity and community improvementAs the Hill Leadership Institute prepares to launch the 20252026 academic year, the recruits have a commitment to teamwork and a fresh curricular framework designed to ignite purpose, promote innovation, and nurture Black excellence through leadership.The vision is rooted in these values: Courage, Honor, Advocacy, Network, Growth, and Excellence (C.H.A.N.G.E.).6 1 E G A P'
